My ISP, Eartlink, has a policy of disconnecting me, after about 15 minutes of inactivity - that is if I'm not actively surfing, downloading, etc. I'm sure that many other ISPs have the same policy. For anybody out there that is not aware of it already, it gives me EXTREME PLEASURE to provide a tip that will defeat this contemptible ISP behavior. You can download any one of a dozen different applications that "ping" pre-selected URLs, in the background, while you are connected. This gives the semblance that you your connection is alive and well - active. Then, your...excuse me...FUCKING ISP...doesn't know any better and doesn't disconnect you every 15 minutes. Just a tip to the user who might not be aware of this. I would go to just about any length to make fools of ISPs and their partners in crime, the computer manufacturers. They have been making fools of us for time eternal, so turnabout is fair play...eh?! Here's the name of one of those apps..."KeepItAlive". Go to any respectable download site, and type "ping", or "internet connection" in their search field, for the names of other apps. Happy surfing! CAT IP: Logged |
