I was hit head on by a drunk driver last night. The people gave me their name, no insurance, and decided they needed to leave before the police got there. I am now without a car, a car I just bought about 3? weeks ago. How do I handle this? Any suggestions? I am so completely amazed at my life. I was not hurt, not bad anyway, but the car is not usable. I have insurance, but I am thinking the other person does not. BTW. They were driving a 2001 mercedes. ~Cristina~

Christina...did not want to be the only person posting on this one....damn...crazy...a 2001 Mercedes and you think that they do not have insurance??? What is up with that? Or did I misunderstand? Did you wait for the police to arrive...did you check their license to make sure you did not get a fake name? Dana

Dear Mom of 4,

If they were driving a new car that was financed they probably did have insurance.
If they left the scene because they were drunk they may not be nailed on that charge, but they should be nailed on the leaving the secne charge. Penalty should be close.

You have probably settled with the insurance company, but if not go to http://www.clarkhoward.com and look at the message board for what I found out in the event of a total loss.
