I recently moved from NW Washington to NE and subsequently asked to
discontinue the old telephone serviceand start a new service.

Since I moved before my new number was connected, I hardly made any
calls from my new number by the time I got the first bill. I was shocked
therefore to see a charge of $318.91.

When I ordered a new service, I was told that the connection charges
would be about $30.00 unless there was some extra wiring required.

The Verizon serviceman said that indeed some extra work was required and
that I can pay a total amount of $95, which would include everything
that needed to be done to make the phone work or pay. If I paid for
each service separately, he said it would be more expensive. Naturally,
I agreed to pay $95.00 I asked the serviceman several times whether the
$95.00 included all the connection and installation charges and he said
yes.

Verizon's monthly statement would have it differently. In addition to
the charge of $95.00, there are additional connection and installation
charges amounting to $214.76. This is NOT what I agreed to pay. And if
I have been misinformed, than Verizon needs to take up the issue with
its employees.

I have lived in the D.C. area for more than 15 years and have had
several new services installed in different addresses. Never have my
telephone bills and installation charges been as high as since the
Verizon took over.
My average bills would amount to $25 dollars a month and were somewhat
higher in the past few years, but with Verizon, they are never below $50
a month and often go close to or over $100.

I understand that the world is changing, but to pay between $50 to $100
dollars a month for 5 to 6 calls a week that I make is entirely
unreasonable. I work long hours and my phone line serves mostly to
receive messages. My friends tell me I would be better off with a cell
phone that gives you a certain number of hours per month to make local
calls for a fixed price.

One would think that with the dvelopment of technology phone service
would become cheaper, not more expenisve. What alternatives are there
to Verizon which I think is a real disaster?

I am in the process of taking them to Superior court here in Seattle, Washington. I am contacting any and everyone and letting them know that if they make enough complaints to the Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney Generals of your state and New Jersey (Verizon is based there), we can all get a class action law suit going. I am an ambassador for planetfeedback.com and if you go to the site and look up complaints for Verizon, you will see tons of them, some like yours. Nothing can happen if we all don't complain. Let me know what you think.

They just send me a $400.00+ phone bill in which I told them to cancel my account since they received my payment , cashed it and now say they have no record of it. Screw them....I will just not pay it as well as inform the credit bureaus! How do I sign up for the class action lawsuit? Email me at
