I wanted to post a complaint against an Internet/Mail Order computer retailer - CompuAmerica. Their web site address is www.compu-america.com and their phone number is 1-800-533-9005.

I attempted to purchase a HP 4050 laserjet. I placed the order, via telephone, on 5/14/01. I used my VISA debit card for the purchase and was told the printer would be in my office no later than Friday, 5/18. The order was posted to my bank account on 5/16 in the amount of $1,235.00. Friday comes - no printer.
I called the 800 number and was advised that I would have to speak to Arlene. I left a voicemail message for her. She, of course, did not call back.

I called again on Monday, May 20th in the afternoon (this company is in California). I actually got Arlene on the line and I gave her my info and asked for status. She shuffled some papers and said there were "special" circumstances on my order and she would have to get back to me. She didn't. Later that day, I called again, Arlene told me she would have to consult her shipping manager, Fred and would get back to me. She didn't.
I sent e-mail to shipping@compu-america.com. I received no response.

I called again today, Tuesday 5/22. I sat on hold for a while then I hung up and redialed. I told the operator that I needed to speak to a manager about my order. Arlene picked up and told me that my printer was supposed to be shipped today, but she doesn't know what happened. At that point, I told her to cancel my order and make sure my money is back in my account tommorrow.

I am amazed that this company stays in business with this kind of customer service. I found them through dealtime.com.

When we called on the 7th to get a tracking number, they said it had shipped and we would receive a tracking number via e-mail. We did not receive a tracking number, we called back on the 9th and were told the item had shipped and we would receive a tracking number via e-mail, it never came. Same thing again on the 10th. Finally on the 13th we spoke to their 'customer service department' and NOW we were told it never shipped it is back-ordered. I e-maield them to tell them is is unacceptable, they lied for a week and now they are telling us it is back-ordered. I received an e-mail reply that the item shipped on the 13th, the same day we were told it was backordered, by the SAME guy, Obi. On the 14th we asked for a trackign number, did not receive one, on the 15th we askedfor a trackign number did not receive one. On the 16th after sitting on hold for 34 minutes I was told it never shipped, but 'the FL warehouse PROMISED it would be overnighted for delivery on Friday. Friday we called for a tracking number, we were on hold for 78 minutes, they kept saying the FedEx tracking number is on it's way, pelase hold, then after 78 minutes the Manager Fred got on and said they don't have the printer, it never shipped, and he doesn't know when it will ship. The item was listed as "Usually ships in 24 hours." I called to check on the item after 2 weeks with no contact from them. They said it was out of stock but would ship within a week. I noted the price had increased $18 since my order but the website still said the item was available. I called after 3 weeks. The rep said I was sent an email cancelling the order several days before--the msg popped into my inbox while I was talking to the rep. They lied about the message. I was told the item was no longer carried. They lied about that. It is still listed on the website for $20 more than my original price. I called and checked on availability--the rep said in was "in stock and could ship within 24 hours." These people lie about things and I will not trust them anymore.||24.107.170.19||reg||8
